October 2010 - Bilston's New Leisure Centre Shows its metal

Royden Structures Limited commenced the erection of Bilston leisure centre for main contractor Shepherd Construction.  The £14.9 million leisure centre is the first phase of the Bilston Urban Village Regeneration Programme and is set to become a striking landmark development providing a 25 metre pool, learner pool, sports hall, health and fitness suite, four squash courts and meeting rooms.

Royden Structures Limited are supplying, fabricating and installing 800 Tonnes of structural steelwork including 25 number cell beams 22m in length, installing 4500 m2 of pre-cast floor units and supplying and installing  pre-cast stairs units.

It will take around 12 weeks to erect 800 tonnes of steelwork that will form the frame of the 5,600 m2 leisure centre which is being built on behalf of Wolverhampton City Council.

Peter Millett, Shepherd Construction’s managing director for the West Division commented on the Wolverhampton Council project website: “People can expect to see a dramatic difference to the site as the steelwork shoots upwards and the shape of the leisure centre becomes visible.”

The leisure centre will be a new landmark in the town with a contemporary curved structure and is due to open for the first time in the summer of 2011.
